The Rock of Doon

On this rock took place the secular ceremony of the O’Donnell Cheiftans, the religous ceremony having took place earlier in the abbey at Kilmacrenan.

Present were O’Friel the inaugurator, the bishop of Derry, (successor of Colmcille,) O’Cleary the scribe, subchiefs and a host of others.

25 in all were inaugurated beginning with Eigneachan in 1200 A.D. and ending with Niall Garbh in 1603.
