Showing the portion of the Gweebara Moutain range that streches through Cloughaneely parish to Gweedore. The Gweebara rift through the highlands of Scotland under the sea an up again through northwestern Donegal. Muckish, on the left, is in Clauganelly while Errigal at the far right belongs to Gweedore. Between Muckish and Errigal are the Larakcahas (spelling) hills and the two mountains Ackle beag agús Ackle mor. There is some fantastic hiking over the Larakcahas. One can see for miles in every direction. There are also interesting lakes throughout the foothills and even higher up. One lake in a bowl on Ackle mor is call “lough an breac bródúil” or “lake of the proud trout,” it was given that name because its trout are hard to catch. Since we’re on the subject or breac these ancient glacial lakes are home to a species called the artic charr, which are a throwback from the last ice age. They have white meat and don’t taste very good, or so I’ve heard.
